Hey folks, need a bit of help on oc'ing my Q9450 as it's the first time I try it.
I know theres a few topics on that exact CPU, but I didn't find adequate answers there.

So, I'm going for a 3.2 GHz oc and I just want some pointers as to what settings to go for.
I realise that i need an FSB of 1600 MHz but I'm clueless wether i need to up the voltages.

My setup is:
Q9450
Asus P5Q-E
2 x 2 GB Corsair PC2-6400 (4-4-4-12)
Corsair 650TX
Radeon HD4850

I doubt any of you tried the same board, but I was hoping that someone could say "These settings will work!"
If not I'm looking for any kind of advice.

Set you FSB to 400 set your CPU voltage to 1.35 and add 1.0 to your VCORE and it should boot to 3.2 gig no problem.
Before you try, need to know if your using stock heat sink and fan?

Ya, it shouldn't be a problem since the board is designed to run at 400mhz FSB.

I'm pretty sure that's a good HSF and should keep it cool O/c'ed to 3.2ghz

Different board to mine but i'd guess your stock CPU volt is about 1.25. Whatever it is set it to manual setting instead of auto and bump it up +1.
Check in your motherboard manual incase you have to press Ctrl and F1 or something to access your extra bios options.

You do nto need to increase the voltage at all. I have mine set at 1.2068 for the CPU and it has no problems at 3.2. Do nto set it to 1.35 because then you are out of the range supported by Intel the CPU supports up to 1.25 and also there is no reason to set it that high. Do not use Asus's auto setting for vaoltage because it will set it way to high.

I agree with hsarc. Im using an ASUS P5E (x38) and I only about 1.22 to get it stable. I think I'm also using same set of RAM. If your mobo doesn't already detect spd timings, key them in yourself along with the memory's voltage which is 2.1 V. And by ocing to 3.2 u can run RAM at 1:1 with FSB without adjusting anything else

Hmm.. ok. Actually i was hoping that I didn't need to touch the voltages.

According to the documentation the Q9450 support voltages up to 1.3625V:

I'm not sure what exactly the Q9450/Intel "officially" support, but definitely just bump it up .1 until it's stable. Shouldn't take too much with most Q9450's it seems.

You don't want to be pumping a single .1v thru it if you don't need to! :D

Don't bump it by a full .1V at a time... that's an enormous voltage increase for a processor like this. Mine runs perfectly at 3.2GHz at 1.25V, up from stock 1.237 (or something like that).

And yes, set the FSB to 400MHz and run the memory 1:1 (or 2:2, which is sort of more accurate), which will have it running at 800MHz DDR.

You may need to tweak your MCH (northboard chip) voltages to get that stable - that depends a lot on the internal MCH settings you select, but if you just leave it at auto, you will likely be able to run 400MHz FSB with no voltage alterations.

@OP why dont you try to just change the FSB tp 400 and prime it to see if it fails. dont be so scare you will not break anything if it freeze or BSOD. if your processor is a good one then you might get away with voltage increase. if it DO fail then just simply up the vcore by 1 notch at a time until its stable.
