Hi, I recently attempted to install a secondary SATA hard drive as a slave with windows xp pro.The drive is displayed in my bios and under device manager>disk management, but when I try to initialize/format the drive after right-clicking,the only options available are;New Partition,Properties ,and Help. What must I do to format my new drive? Please can anyone assist,as I am poised over the computer with an estwing hammer ready to smash!!!!???

I think you will have to create a new partition first from the drive and than try format the new partition. Or try to update the firmware for the drive. You should able to find it on the manufacturers site.

Yes, you need to create the partitions before you can format them.
