Palm/Win2K experts,
Whenever I click on the Palm desktop icon I get an error message
"Palm.exe has generated errors and will be closed by Windows. You will
need to restart the program." I am running Win2k and this has happened
on two different machines. After the message appears Windows closes
Palm Desktop. In Dr. Watson for Win2k I get the following message in
the error log: "c0000005 Ordinal858(6C374045)"
I uninstalled Palm.exe per the instructions of the Palm Techsupport.
I did this on a laptop computer and on my desktop, both running
Win2000. After completeing the instructions Palm Desktop software ran
on my laptop but not on my desktop. The Palm Desktop software
continued to run on my laptop for about six days. This morning when I
tried to start it up I got the same error message as before, "Palm.exe
has generated errors and will be closed by Windows. You will need to
restart the program. An error log is being created." As soon as I
clicked OK in the popup window the Palm Desktop window closed. I have
closed all of the items in my toolbar that I think may effect Palm,
such as Nortan AntiVirus Auto-Protect, Norton Clean Sweep, etc. Still
the software will not run.

Sounds like the executable, or a DLL it relies on, has become corrupted,
due to a disk write error. Suggest you
a) make two (2) backups of the PALM program and all data
b) uninstall it
c) delete the PALM directory
d) reinstall Palm Desktop from a newly downloaded installer
e) copy the data files back to their rightful position underneath the PALM
directory
