My Gigabyte motherboard has a nifty little program called EasyTune 5 that comes with it. It will allow you to overclock and look at various temps and fan speeds. When I look at the hardware monitor portion of it, I see my system temp is hovering around 32 and my CPU around 30. My CPU fan is at 938 rpm (and is showing a yellow warning icon) but it fluctuates. My Pwr1 and System fan are at 0 rpm because they don't exist. Am I supposed to have a system fan and Pwr1 fan installed somewhere? I have the front case fan, the power supply fan, the rear case fan, the CPU fan and the fan on the 8800GT card. Is there something I should be doing so these fans show up? Should I have other fans installed?

cpu fan is the only requirement. The rest are optional.

1st, dump EasyTune. It looks nice. Google speedfan.

Let's say I want to have a Pwr1 fand and System fan and monitor them. Do I use the fans I already have, since the cooling so far seems adequate? The other question is, if I do use them, how do I get them to be monitored? I see places on the motherboard for the fans to be connected, but no connectors other than power cords on the fans themselves.

It might not be the greatest for fan speed monitoring, but EasyTune looks like a good tool for overclocking. Especially for somebody new to it (me). Is that not true?

Ok, if your fans don't have 3-pin connectors, get 4-to-3-pin adapters. Plug them in the mobo so they can be monitored.

I don't monitor fan speeds anymore. I let the fan controller take care of them. It can hook up to 3/4pin fans. About $20 each. See newegg.com
