Will windows key work with another CD?

Hi guys, wondering if somebody can help me here. I have just bought a new hard drive (old one is being wiped and given to sister) and want to keep my OS but i have lost my disk :s Will the CD key work with any 32bit Vista disk? the old hard drive came with the OS on it from a dell i bought a few years ago and is now part of a a custom build.

No, it won't work with just any Vista disc!
