Hey everyone:

I've gotten a laptop with a dead mobo, and I need to back up some data from the HDD. Here's my question, what do I need?

The laptop HDD:

44-pin ATA, it's flat, 22 little metal contacts on either side of a thin piece of plastic.
a 4- Pin power connector, in a square shape.

My Desktop rig:

I have a free HDD IDE port (40-pin, the standard, right?), male in on the mobo of course, and three free SATA ports.

Is there a way to get that data off of there with a cable/adapter, etc?

I've looked around and found some, but I need to be sure.

Thanks.

you can get your self a 2.5'' IDE caddy and just leave it in there and access via USB, or yes you can pick up the converter which BTW is 40 pin (the extra 4 are for master/slave etc) and if your going that way, DONT PLUG IT IN THE WRONG WAY - experience ;)
