Stick with a single drive and save yourself the headache.

I also must note that I want the best performance, storage isn't a huge issue either way would be more than enough storage for me.

RAID can be fun as long as you have a backup in case one drive fails.

RAID does not give as much of a speed increase as you may think.
IMO it is not enough to offset the potential issues.
As it looks like you are ready to spend a bundle on a fast hard drive setup, look into a WD VelociRaptor or a small SSD with another storage drive.

Agreed. Keep your current drive as storage and go get a velociraptor for your system drive. That will give you WAY more speed than either of those options.

I can get the WD Black 500gb for around $85 and the raid controller for 40$(yes i know it is a cheap one), the Samsung F1 TB is about $120

Ditto, skip the raid and go with SSD system!

When I went from a single-drive to RAID-0, I noticed a substantial difference (all else being equal, and it was an addition to the existing drive, so it wasn't because of quicker drives being used). Do what you want, but if you want RAID, just make sure you have a backup or possibly suffer the consequences of a failed drive.

Im just debating buying a faster single hd (TB F1) or just buying another 500gb in RAID, i don't know what would provide better performance.
