if i were to build another machine (which i plan on doing within next few months, if congress gets the NDAA straightened up so AMERICANS dont have to pay for stupid crap in IRAQ) and i get my money for 6 more years of service...what? ok sorry. i was wondering, and i read the whole tier of power supplies, and seen that these were both like t2 and t3 roughly, and which was better? i know that enermax is topa da line, but is like 100 or more dollars. so, here it goes!

oh, i think im goin with either a 6850 or then new q9550 or 9450 when they roll out (is there a need for quads now? if not, i could get for "future proof" right?) and some good ram.

antoher question, is it really worth it for ddr3? im not so sure. i want to get a p5e as well. those are pretty nice, unless someone else has another suggestion i would be willin to swap. i might do a moderate oc, nothing crazy, and keep it at 250 or less for a board. thanks for the help!

I have the P5E and love it! DDR3 is completely a waist of money, theres not much difference between the two yet. I'd go for the Enermax Galaxy if I could do it all over again, better to have more power than you need then to not have enough power. The difference in price between the 850W and the 1000W is small. If your not going to overclock then get the 6850, if you are going to OC then get the E6750 and OC it to 3.2 or whatever.

The RAM that you really want is Crucial's Ballistix DDR2 800, this stuff overclocks the best. Mine OC's to 5-5-5-15 1200MHz @ 2.2 volts. Are you going to game at all?

I don't think we can see your link (I can't). Currently DDR3 is absolutely not worth it, but in a few months it may well be. Whether or not you need a quad depends on what you are doing. Current games cannot utilize all four cores, but many multimedia or CAD applications can.

Could you list the other components you are thinking about? 850W is a lot of power and if you have that much money to spend on a PSU, you should go with TIER I like PC Power and Cooling even if that means fewer watts. You only need 850 if you are running Tri-SLI or SLI and a greatly overclocked Core 2 Extreme or something, and even then you would probably have more power than you need. That said, your PSU can outlast the rest of your components, so if you have the cash for a tier I 850W with a long warrenty that might not be a bad move.

i game a lot. fps and wow. i mean framerates arent any better when you are online, but quality and performance is good. i read a lot of bad reviews on the galaxy. it is the TOP tier 1 power supplies, well worth the money i suppose. do you think the new wolfdales will be worth it over the 6750? more cache, higher fsb, but that could harm oc. i dont think i would oc too much. i only do it now to get my patriot ram up to specs (Thanks, 10.5 multi!!!!) oh, turns out i posted the wrong url! im sorry, lemme fix in next post

Along with PC power and cooling, silverstone is probably THE most trusted PSU maker (they actually manufacture the popular corsair PSUs) . Since their PSU is $100 less than the Galaxy, I say absolutely go with them.
