Help me decide on a motherboard

I have read until my eyes are about to bug out of my head and I can't make a decision on the motherboard for my new gaming rig. I plan to do basic overclocking (nothing advanced or extreme) so I want something capable, reliable, and user friendly. I plan to start with a E6750 and move to a quad when I need to upgrade. I also plan to start with 1 8800GT graphics card. I would consider an SLi capable board if it meets the overclocking needs and fell under $150. In general, I am looking for the best value (price/performance). I do not need most of the bells and whistles on the high-end boards (like RAID, Firewire, etc.).

The three boards I have been considering are:

GIGABYTE GA-P35-DS3L
$99

ASUS P5K-E/WIFI-AP
$139

Abit IP35-E
$115

Please help we decide which one I should get.

(I will post this on the motherboard and overclocking forums but the homebuilt forum has been the most useful in my building research)

  1. 1 vote DS3L.
  2. Asus P5K-E/WiFi-AP or else. :D
  3. i vote for DS3L
  4. For what it's worth?

Just built my system before Christmas - have never had a problem with Gigabyte until this build. Tried 2 DS3L's, both bad. Would have exchanged for Asus, but wasn't in stock so went with EVGA. Gigabyte is a good board, I just thought after 2 tries I would go with a different brand.

    Good luck!
  5. DS3L - no RAID, no FireWire, no SLI/CrossFire

Good overclocker: E6750 at 3.2 on OEM cooler with voltage reduction. Max OC on stock fan around 3.44 @ 65 C. Looking for 3.6, ZeroTherm BT90 on order.

    Get a well-ventilated case.
  6. CPU cooler to get when there back in stock.

  7. systemlord,

Why is the cooler you listed better than the ARCTIC COOLING Freezer 7 Pro 92mm CPU Cooler? It is half the price with excellent reviews. Just wondering.
  8. they're
  9. I have a DS3L with a Q6600@3.42ghz. Easy board to OC. vdroop is a little much but livable. Price for a P35 board is great. None of the boards you listed will SLI you need a 680i or 780i board. TD had XFX and EVGA 680i boards with C2D and C2Q combos at a decent price a short time ago if you are set on SLI.

Its all about surface area, let my CPU cooler chart show you why. :D Trust me the Tuniq Tower 120 is much better.
