They had a great offer for an antec p182 for $99 with a $50 mail-in-rebate yesterday. I place my order and receive an order acknowledgment email. Then, i get another one saying my order has been canceled due to lack of inventory. Son of a monkey's uncle!!! Sorry for the rough language, but I'm mad. I was all excited about my new case, and then no! I email them telling what happened, they say the order is canceled and that's that. Shouldn't they make more of an effort to help the customer if the order goes through? I went back later and it said out of stock, but not while i was there the first time. I vent my frustrations here in hopes the fry guys will pay attention and learn about customer service.
What, and screw over someone else that ordered before you?
Maybe the instant you hit "submit", it was sold out?
they could just honor my order as soon as inventory is available and keep the same sale date so my rebate would work. that's all i ask
Sounds like you should take your business elsewhere, no?
These places could care less about customers. they just want your money. They aren't going to make concessions, and you shouldn't either.
go somewhere else.
In other words, you want a raincheck...which Frys is not exactly know for giving. I shop Fry's and I love the place. I would never order on-line, I want to see in person what I am paying for when I buy it. Nearly any Fry's sale I have seen is limited to quanity on hand. Many times they are trying to get rid of inventory they are not going to carry any longer.
Stop whining like a little girl and buy one someplace else.
A LOT of stores do not do rainchecks on sales items.
Frys is NOT my first choice, by a long shot.
The Grand Prarie Texas store must be run by monkeys.

Never been to the Texas store. Have shopped in several Southern California stores, and the Wilsonville Oregon store. Fry's is utterly fantastic for the large selection, they carry almost everything you could ever want. They simply blow away any other electronics store I have ever been in, literally.
But when you go to Fry's, you have to have done your homework, know exactly what you want, and what you want to pay for it. Also be on the lookout for returned items, many of the items on the shelves are returns. They are marked most of the time, but I have seen items that were obvioulsy open box or returns and have not been marked as such. Just be careful and look closely.
You never, ever, ever go into Fry's undecided and start asking for advice or questions about products. I have witnessed this first hand over and over when I hear a customer asking for advice from one of the employee's. Big mistake, the following line of baloney spewing forth goes from laughable to just downright ridiculous......
But for price and selection, you have to go online to beat Fry's. I personally want to actually see and touch what I am paying for, I am not an on-line shopper, so I head for Fry's.
Houston Texas now has two Fry's. They are pretty good stores, but the high end components seem to be less competitive with the internet prices. The rest of the stuff is pretty close though. They tend to have OUTSTANDING deals on cases, among other things.
Frys= cheap prices and terrible customer service. In fact the Grand Prairie Texas store is or seems like it is run by monkies. Been there, felt the pain.
I just bought nice computer components and a front load washer and dryer from fry's in Houston and they have been fine to me.

Someone needs an anger management course. So they were out of stock and cancelled the order. It happens. No rain check? Many stores do not do that. Maybe they had a limited number of rebates they were allowed to issue. That would not be surprising to me.
And customer service? Many times while shopping at Fry's I have wished I could find a sales person to help me or found myself in long checkout lines (occasionally over an hour on big sale days), but I don't get frustrated. I know that increased customer service comes at a cost, and higher prices. Every company has to make a decision about where they will be on the low service/low price to good service/higher price continuum. Fry's apparently has made that decision on the side of lower price.
Every customer is free to select what stores they shop. But having made that selection, it is wrong to then attack the practices that are part of their merchandising program. I for one appreciate the low prices - along with a large selection it is one of the reasons I shop at Fry's. And probably why many other customers are willing to knowingly tolerate those long checkout lines.
It appears that it was a sale and low price that attracted you to try to make a purchase. I am sorry it was cancelled and you lost out. But if you are unhappy, just go shop at those high priced stores and pay the higher prices for the better service. It is your choice. I just don't hope you don't the return and complain about the high prices.
Fry's here in norcal has a history of killer sales and ads, but when you get to the store...nothing bust dust on the shelves where the sale item should be. but they do a good job of getting you into the store.
lol, the car in front of me got through the traffic light, but I got hit with the red light.... GAARRRRG!!! All I ask is that I get green lights whenever I drive for the rest of my life... Since I got a red light, I need to post on a forum to explain how bad the city government is for designing red lights... GAARRRRRG!!!
ROAR!!!!
ANGER!!!!
wtf, seriously... who cares. It'll probably be back in stock in 1-2 days when their next shipment comes, that's how Fry's usually operates. http://www.frys.com/product/4470306
| jeremyrailton wrote : they could just honor my order as soon as inventory is available and keep the same sale date so my rebate would work. that's all i ask |
They will if you call them and ask them to put it on backorder (i've done it and it has worked). Except for this deal, because, according to the rep i spoke to, they are not going to carry the p182 anymore. They are still going to carry the p180 but not the 182... figure that one out.
And really, for me dude, I'd rather have them send me the email saying they're out as opposed to waiting and waiting and they just not say anything, or if they give me a raincheck, I personally would rather just know so I can get a different part and be happy and get on with my life.
Thats why I always use Newegg. More than once Newegg ran out of supplies after I submitted the order. After about 2 days they called me and said that they would send the same parts (Q6600 during the price cuts
, a CPU Cooler) for $20 off(for the CPU, and the same price for the cooler)!

weskurtz houston has 3 frys
one just south of nasa
one off 59S
one 45N
I really think the ones in houston are pretty good. My friend works there and didn't know anything about computers in the beginning, but after i met him again he knew about overclocking, which series and brands to choose, etc.
He just told me that once in a while they have someone not know what they're talking about and he has to go correct them.
My house is kinda behind fry's, just a couple minute walks and im there.
| onestar wrote : Frys is NOT my first choice, by a long shot. |
The Dallas and Plano stores are great. I prefer the Dallas store 'cause I can walk there in 5 minutes. The Plano store has a coffee bar, with a big black Steinway player piano just outside. Good employees at both.

These guys must be related to the chumps - er, I mean, chimps - at ClubIt.
update: Ok, they ran the same deal on the white (instead of gun metal) case and i got one, so i'm less mad at fry's now. I still think they should honor the confirmed orders, though.
BTW, this case is awesome.
So I order a case from Frys.com, then I'm told they are soled out, so I whine about it on this here forum, but then I say they should honor the order. But then I would whine about having to wait for the thing to get to me from back order. I also will not get the rebate because you have to order the case by a date that is not fulfilled by the back order, so I will whine about that too.
WTF?
Me I like frys.com I get the things I order in a timely way and I have never had an error with any order.
Frys.com has some very good sales, without rebates. I hate rebates.
Newegg, Frys, and Zipzoomfly yay!
I dont know guys, but I loved fry's, they had great networking kids for cheap prices, also had all the DVD brands for burning
the only thing they were lacking, were western digtal hard disks
but I wont blame them, I went buying the 28th of december, so all SATA hdds were sold out, only 500 GB were advailiable, and ddint want to spend more than 90 USD... ( microcente had ran out of the great sale of 320 gb hdds for 79 USD too )
Frys has always been good to me to. They may not the most refined salespeople in the world, but they have a good selection, excellent sale prices (except on videocards, which no brick+mortar store does), and a godsend of a return policy.
This happened to me at Newegg. I bought a 22in (216bw) Samsung monitor from there back in November. A day later, the order was canceled due to lack of stock. I called and asked about the sale price ($50 off); if I'd get the sale price when it came back in stock and they said no. I wasn't overly upset as this happens from time to time. You may have submitted your order just as the last one went out the door and they hadn't scanned it in or something yet. I didn't care much cause I got the 220WM on black friday a lot cheaper. Don't get me wrong, Newegg is still among the best and order from them constantly but things like this do happen every now and then (if they didn't refund your money, like at hotbuyselectronics.com, thats a different story)...
You know, I worked at frys for 3 years as a service tech before i moved on to VMware, and i gotta say frys does suck. (sorta) They are some of the best priced items you can find around, have a huge selection, and for the most part they generally always have what i want. Even their return dept is not too bad. (but sometimes it is)
However where they suck is customer service. I've been a die-hard computer gamer/ensuthist all my life, and i totally understand the amount of people they hire is minimal to keep costs down. (makes perfect sense)
But the people they employ should be very knowable in their job and dept. Where i live in silicon valley cali, theirs 6 frys and i have been to each one and lived here all my life (31 years). And i gotta say, from my standpoint, i have only met maybe 5 people in all that time that not only knew their job, but were smart enough, and computer savy enough to make suggestions on things even i was unsure of. 99% of the employees in most frys are not gamers, not ensuthists, and don't care about computers. Its just a job. When i go to frys, i make sure i know what i want before i go. But thank god for me in my area theres a store called centralcomputers. (www.centralcomputer.com)(just fyi)
Despite the crappy website they have, i can go into any of their stores and ask anything i want. 100% of the employees are die hard gamers, even the techs come out of the back room to assit you in building or making decisions about your new rig. Where frys has a huge selection on my items, central only has gamer type brands, the only mobo brands they carry are intel, asus, evga. just as an example. I don't know what i would do without them. They test parts for you for free, they build your rig (water blocks or liquid nitro even) all free. But to pay for all that killer service, they again, only carry high end items (they don't know the meaning of off-brand) and the price is sometimes the same as frys or 5% higher.
So for all of the people out there that hate frys. Know this.
Frys is just another buiness trying to make money and cut costs, they hire people with no experiance because they are cheap to hire and they don't always have something in stock.
on the positive side, they have huges selections, a fairly decent return dept, rock bottom prices (in most cases)
I mean we all know (you get what you pay for) If i want a cheap 200 dollar internet rig, I goto frys. If i want a real rig, i either shop online, or goto central.
so, to the original poster i say this. Learn more about what you want before shopping at frys, call ahead and make sure they have at least 3+ in stock of the item you want,(when i worked there 3 or less meant they didnt have it.)
and also, understand unless your very lucky, you not going to find a really knowledgable person at frys.(for the most part)
I'm lucky to live in silicon valley, i have many options. But nomatter what state you live in, theres always gotta be another computer store besides frys you can buy things at. Just like walmart is not the only low cost retail store out there.
On a side note, Personally i would love it if frys only hired gamers/ensuthists, or maybe even people with degrees in the computer field, but we all know thats not only not going to happen, but would cost too much to employ them so their costs would no long be cheap. Thus negating the reason i shop there.
If the OP still wants a deal on the P182, he should check the 'Egg right now. $90 after rebate, free shipping.

LMAO! the Arlington store isn't so bad. plus they got some nice lookin chicks that work there too.

ok first, this is Toms Hardware, not Fry's Electronics... stop your crying here if you hope to accomplish something at fry's...
secondly, you're in a for a rude surprise if you think that A.) Fry's cares about the QQ'ing of one consumer... B.) It's Fry's fault that you didn't pick up the deal fast enough... C.) your little rant HERE, at TOMS HARDWARE, is going to resolve your issue with FRYS ELECTRONICS...
seriously, go cry to their corporate relations and keep your rubbish out of our forums... we get enough complaints from people that wonder why their new 8800GTX isn't working with their stock dell and it's whopping 300W power supply...
I used to work for frys, and i will tell you some of the people they employ are not very bright at all, let alone knowledgeable in the field of computers. i used to work up at the front doing returns, and also on the sales floor in the components dpt yet the A+ staff always called me up to help come fix problems whenever they had a Mac come in or, when ever they had something they should have been able to answer. but other than their pathetic staff, as far as finding things, i personally think they are better than most of their competitors, such as BestBuy.
EDIT: their website is the worst ive ever had to navigate through.

A+ certification. Teaches you how to explain to non-tech people that you really do not know what you are doing.
Ive been to the dallas and plano stores, great places to shop... but the people who work there know jack crap about what their selling.

Yeah, I just saw that yesterday. Fortunately, I already got my case - Ultra m998. Beautiful.
I've had good and bad experiences with Fry's. About 2 )maybe 3) years ago, I was building my first computer. I bought 2x512mb sticks of DDR2 533Mhz RAM, which back then was about $100. When I got everything hooked up, it was actually 2 sticks of 1Gb. Which was really nice for me, because 2Gbs in a computer wasn't as common back then. It was just really cool.
And then I've had some bad experiences with returning products. I'd say the customer service isn't that good. But I guess they have good deals sometimes.
I like newegg. When I went to go buy my Tuniq Tower, the price was $60, when it is almost consistently on sale for $40 on newegg. But I needed it anyway, and bought it. Before it even got to my house, the price went back down to $40. I emailed newegg and explained what happened, and they gave me a $20 refund.
Newegg has great service.

I've been buying from Newegg for a good deal of time. I've never come across anyone that had a bad thing to say about their customer service. Newegg is the service king.
truromeo4juliet, having a bad day?

Alright, I want to get this, but the rebate must be postmarked by the 15th. Do you think if I ordered tonight, Newegg will get it to me before the 15th so I can send in the rebate?
Actually, I probably need to get it by the 14th for it to be postmarked by the 15th. Dang.. that's cutting it close, don't want to get screwed because of shipping times.
Edit:
Okay, I just found a promo code for this that takes an additional $30 off!
http://promotions.newegg.com/NEema [...] -Moredeals
So that's:
$169 - $30 instant - $30 promo code - $50 rebate + $0 shipping = $59.99 total
Fry's typically has terrible prices compared to say newegg.... but they do have the occasional super deal on a random item you might want. It would probably be a bad deal to order your whole system from them.
I am not a big fan of Buy.com, most of the deals they have require a rebate, and in my opinion rebates are a scam.
Frys.com has good deals on various things, but not the best prices overall. I guess I have been very lucky that I have not had to deal with customer service at Frys.com.
Zipzoomfly also has good prices on most things.
But Newegg has the best customer support and shipping service, that I get most of the things I buy from them. I also like Newegg's web site design the best, it's easier to find things on their site.
well, it seems as though fry's is trying to improve. there was a similar scenario where a power supply was on sale with an excellent rebate. i jumped on it, got the confirmation email, and then a similar rejection email a day later, telling me they were out of stock. HOWEVER, they now included a statement saying they would try to fulfill my order within the next 30 days. does this still include the rebate? i'm not entirely sure, but at least they were apologetic about the confusion, and stated they were working to resolve the problem. This is all i wanted, a company to try to please the customer. without customer service, you're sunk as a business. it looks like someone there knows what they're doing. i hope they continue to work hard for the poor guy like me too keep prices low and service good.
Edit: accidental double post
I have the same experience with an ordering of Norton 360 yesterday. It is EXACTLY the same experience. I wrote to Fry's headquarter at San Jose and complain about that. The rebate is only good for the day and I missed it because of Fry's problem. I spent hour entering the order, gathering rebate required document, fill in document etc. The next day, I was told it is out of stock.
