More Information

I've just installed a new ASUS mobo and I can't get my sound card to work.

I've eliminated hardware problems by testing the PCI slot with another card, checking the card is snigly fitted to the slot, checking Device Manager etctesting my speaker connections etc but I'm now convinced it's a software problem - but I'm still stuck.

It's an old SB Live! card and I'm using the LiveDrive Uni pack 1.0.0.1 drivers.

When I go to the EAX effects menu and test the sound, I get a result - but not on the ordinary speaker test, and not on any apps. Nothing is muted in any of my tick boxes and none of the volume controls are at zero.

I think I'm missing something bleedin' obvious - but I can't think what. Any ideas?

It would be good in the future to know exactly what model of Asus motherboard it is and what operating system too

I would use the onboard audio on this one but hey ho.. The SB Live is not as good as it used to be anymore....

Go into the bios and disable on board audio.

Under XP

uninstall drivers for onboard audio ( realtek i think )

go to control panel
go to sound and audio devices
click on audio and make sure sblive is selected in the top two boxes

and tick use default devices only

voila

i dont have a live anymore, im using a XiFi but these are troublesome too.
But check the website for updates etc...

if they keep bring stuff out with crappy drivers they wont be around for much longer, and be gone with the other pioneers of the computer industry
