Hello everybody! My first post is a question. I've got an opportunity to buy a "new" EVGA 7950 GX2 from a friend for $200.00

This would be for a new build on an SLI mb. Some good deals on 8600 series cards made me wonder about two of those vs. the one GX2.

Tom's comparison chart shows the GX2 pulling some good stats. Anyway, what would you do?

Don't buy either.

Get the HD3850 256MB. It's the best valued video card out there. If you want to play at high resolution, get the 512MB version.

You can get it at newegg for $169.99.

Totally agree with Evilongiri. Or, if you have a good power supply, I'm assuming you do since you want to SLI, go for the 2900 Pro, it's pretty much a 2900XT, so it's basically a power hungry 3870 and it can be had for only 159.99.

Are you sure this guy is a "Friend"?
Tell him to eBay it, but don't try to sell it to a "Friend".

8600 in SLI? Who gave you that idea? 8600 is terrible in SLI, not worth considering at all. $200 seems a bit steep for a secondhand 'new' 7950 especially considering it is from a friend.

For the budget concisous gamer the previous advice recommending a 3850 is very sound.

Did they fix the unreal bug with the 3850s yet? Where it only uses 30% of the core. If not and you plan on doing unreal Youshould try the 256mb 8800 GT... can get it for $200 now.
