3850 512MB should be equal or slightly slower than 256 version when memory isn't an issue and 8800GT 256 should be slightly slower due to slower clocks on memory than 512 version. That's that.

thx for help... I'm about to buy an card and I'm having difficulties with chosing...
it's either... 3870, 3850, or 8800 gt... not sure how much I'll have to spend.

If you can spend for the 8800GT 512MB then get it, if you can't afford to spend that much then the HD 3870, and if you can't afford to spend that much either then the HD 3850 512MB. Just try to get one of those cards with 512MB

thx.. one more question :P .. I've got an sh... ... bad cpu.. an x2 4200+ ... if i change my vga (fromx1950) to one of those above mentioned.. will I see a huge difference.. or because of my cpu it won't change that much?

Reply to foxhound009

There is a Mod now that changes the voltage on the 3870s and 3850s that enables one hell of an overclock on them. I suggest getting a 3870 though however as they can clock higher then the 3850 to my knowledge.

Honestly I don't see why you say your CPU is THAT bad, it's a pretty decent one. You should see a very nice increase in performance.

truehighroller, I'm curious as to what that mod is that you're talking about, letting the 38xx series be overclocked higher.
