Hi, I'm going to be building a new PC next month and have a fairly limited budget..

I can either go for a..

Core 2 Duo 2.66GHz
8600GT 512mb

or...

Athlon 64X2 5000
8800GT 512mb

which combination would be better? They're around equal in price.

Also, should I go for Vista Home Premium 64-bit...or 32? I'm thinking 64...

(I've been out of the loop a while)

I checked drivers and my mobo/gpu options are all supported, so hopefully it should be ok.

Thanks for the link, it helped a bit, at the minute I'm thinking possibly a 5000 w/8800gt, as the difference between the 8800 and the 8600 is bigger than the diff. between the CPUs...

How about going for a Core 2 Duo E4500 with an 8800GT? I think that will be a similar price to what your looking for as well.
