My first post so please take it easy on me. I searched for answers here and found nothing quite conclusive to my needs so here goes.My Viewsonic 912b died on me and I decided to go with the current trend of widescreen monitors.I purchased a Samsung 206bw which has a native resolution of 1680 X 1050. I now need to get a card to work with this resolution to make things look right.I do not want to upgrade my mobo right now, but I don't want to sink a bunch in a card either. My system has been very reliable and does what I need, kinda like your favorite old shirt or shoes, you just don't WANT to get rid of them. Here are my details:

Sony desktop 2Ghz-1G ram-160G HD
SIS650_740 on board video
Has 1 AGP slot. I'm told it is AGP1X from Sony support.
I don't play games, except solitaire :)
I mostly use my system for browsing, e-mail, home pictures and soon for home video.

The AGP 1X is a concern as I wonder about compatibility with the new cards. It looks like the GeForce 7300GT is my lowest price card that will support the 1680X1050 resolution. I am not really up to speed on the newer systems but maybe I am overlooking something obvious. I find it very difficult to find a list of resolutions that a card will support. Is this a common resolution for all cards? In my area I have a CCity, Best Buy, OMax, Staples, and I have bought from Newegg. These are my reliable choices I like. Anyway TIA for any help.

Get the 7600GS instead. The 7300 is a very poor performing card period. It was made for low-end systems. So I recommend the 7600GS 512 from EVGA or ASUS or XF...Also,can you tell us who the motherboard manufacurer is???If your AGP is not 3.0 version, then you risk killing your video card and or MB.Some newer cards are able to run on the 2.0 version of AGP,but you'll likely take a small performance hit.If it turns out that you have the 1.0 version of agp, then sadly you have no choice but to stay with on-board video or build a new system.Goodluck.

Thanks for the advice. I will check it out and post later today. I might have to use a slightly newer machine with this monitor. I will get info on both MB's. Tks, Rick.

I didn't even check the Sony as it is a 1X. My other is a Medion. Mobo is a Medion 5000 version 1. It came with a Nvidia Geforce4 Ti with 8Xagp. I went to nvidia's web site and found a driver that supported the 1680X1050 for my card. Installed it and no problems. Thanks again for the heads up on the 1X.
