Neither.

Wait for the E8400. It's due for launch on the 20th. It will be $80 cheaper than the E6850 but is faster.

The New E8000 series is going to be released in January 2008. Wait for them before you waste money on the 6850. The E8400 performed better and overclocks much higher.

Here is the review of the engineering samples:

Enjoy! :)

The Core 2 Duo will be better at stockspeed. It can also be overclocked more than the Athlon 6400+ which is already clocked near it's limit.

The upcoming Penryn CPUs (E8xxx series) are expected to be released on January 20th. I don't know their tray prices (i.e. lots of 1,000), but expect to pay a premium of up to $100 during the initial 4 - 6 weeks due to expected overwhelming demand. When the E6600 was released in 2006, the expected street price was about $320, I remember seeing etailers selling them in excess of $400 for the first several weeks.

Some preliminary benchmarks showed that an E8xxx CPU outperforms a similarly clocked E6xxx CPU by 5% on average for games; (but not more than 7% for any specific game).

Stay with Intel if it involves gaming.

Intel proc. are better when it comes to that.
Get a new E8000 series.

Decide for yourself...

Like I said, wait for the E8400. It provides the best price/performance for gaming. The E8500 is slightly faster but not worth the $80 premium.

That's a bit of an understatement.

Least they're cheap if you need quad-core.

Asus P5E is a good x38 mobo...maximus formula is also good.
depends on what u want, DDR2 or DDR3, and how much you're willin to spend on a mobo
