I have an abit IP35 Pro motherboard which apparently supports PCI Express X16 Version 1.1 and not 2.0.

After reading a bunch of stuff, the nvidia 8600 appears to be more in line for the X16 v1.1. The 8800 series seems to be for v2.0. I think the 8800 will work with my motherboard, but it this going to be overkill? Will I not be able to see much improvement fo the increase in cost of going from an 8600 to an 8800?

Thanks!

Okay, first things first, you can run a PCIe 2.0 graphics card in a v1.1 slot. There is no point to skimp out just because you don't have a v2.0 slot; there is virtually no difference in performance. And yes, you will get WAY more performance if you get an 8800 series. or even an hd 38xx series. Don't go for 8600.

8800gt, or wait for a 8800gs or 9600gt if you want a cheaper video card.
