My Compoter came without Windows discs. I get the message damaged or missing MMDRIVER.INF when I open the volume controls. Volume works fine when I test the speakers or when the machine is turned on, the regular loading sounds are heard.
Thanx
Jim

PS I have service Pack 3 and XP on a Compaq Presario SR1610NX

It dioesn't appear inmy C:\windows\inf folder, which you can only see if you open up to view hidden files, etc, so it must be a driver for Codeks my system doesn't have. Do you know who built your sound card? Can you find it in Device Manager and click the Details tab, then note the VEN and DEV codes? Input them in the right boxes at http://www.pcidatabase.com and you should find the maker's name and possibly a link to the appropriate driver.
