Hi all,

I have an e6300 cpu which i've been wanting to overclock for some time. Unfortunately my current motherboard (AsRock 4Coredual-vsta) is not particularly OC friendly and also seems to have issues with my graphics card so I'm looking to get a more usable motherboard.

Nearly every review I've read online has suggested the same solution - the Gigabyte GA-965P-DS3. If not that one, then one in the same family. My problem is that this MB is no longer sold in any online retailer in the UK and with so many motherboards available these days, I'm somewhat at a loss as to which one to go for.

Can anyone here recommend a motherboard that will work for me? The cheaper the better really ;-)

My pc specs are as follows:

Intel Core2Duo e6300 @1.86 ghz
ASRock 4CoreDual-VSTA
2x512mb DDR I memory (I have 2x1Gb of DDR II 800mhz sitting in its box for when I have a newer MB)
HIS Radeon x1950 Pro 256mb

Thanks in advance

I would check for compatibility but a P35 MB should do the trick, Gigabyte makes quite a few good one that are not too expensive. For example

Or if you want something new but a bit more expensive the P45 MB are another option.

I too had a similar situation and I ordered the ASUS P5Q LGA 775 Intel P45 ATX http://www.newegg.com/Product/Prod [...] 6813131295. I can hit 3.2 ghz on my e6300 and 800 mhz memory. I've ordered 1066 memory to see if I can push it even more :o . It runs stable and cool with an after market cooler. See my sig for my hardware. Highly recomend this mobo though I know its pricey at over $140. For me it was well worth it.

I'm using an E6300 with an Asus P5K, my FSB is at 430 MHz and I can't raise it anymore because my RAM won't go any higher (and I want to keep the 1:1 ratio), it isn't very expensive either.

Thanks for all your replies, they've been helpful, but as always seems to happen I might not need them after all! I've actually managed to find the motherboard I originally wanted (the GA-965P-DS3) for sale in the B grade section on overclockers.co.uk so I've bought that for £35. Hopefully it'll all work ok but if not I'll take a look at the P35 motherboards mentioned here.

Thanks again :)
