so i think THG should do a review over how ell the phenoms overclock and compare it to the q6600 and its overclock abilities using sis software synthetic tests so i can compare it to what i get in the same tests and determin whether or not the performance incr5ease would be worth me upgrading from my 5600+. what about you guys!?!?!?!
is there a way to suggest an article like that to the THG staff?
the phenoms are pieces of crap. There is no reason to get one. period. maybe if amd actually fixed it, but not at it's current state. most of us already know, if you're lucky, you MIGHT be able to get it to 3ghz, but that's still SLOWER then then OLD amd 6400+ cpu. Basically if you overclock your cpu to a 3ghz speed, it's not much slower at all. If you want a REAL cpu, get the intel. It's really the only choice right now.
It would be a piss poor article. It would be the q6600 overclocking like a crazy women while the Phenom fails to overclock a little if at all... until B3.
That should be definitive enough for you.

Until B3 or a 45nm shrink that has huge jump in performance...it be best for the press not even to bother comparing the 2. The Intel will be faster, Overclock better......which is something we all already know.
Maybe once AMD's CPU division starts releasing competitive products and Im not just talking about on a Price/Performance ration...but purely on raw performance then a good round of comparisions will be due. But right now the CPU market is very one sided.
u know what would be a good article, max clock the phenom, which is like what? 2.8? Then under or over clock the q6600 so that their benchmarks are neck to neck. I wanna see how much faster the q6600 is (clock for clock)

Actually from what I've been reading on a lot of forums, the phenom is doing ok on FSB/base HTT speed freq ocing. But, they become very unstable and not overclockable if Cool and Quiet is enabled in the bios. And, as far as using the k9a2 board, it's more about bios maturity.
Also, most of the review sites are using ES processors. I don't know if the Northbridge/IMC freq multiplier is unlocked on those like it is on the 9600 black edition. Going by that depending on how high the IMC can be stabily set to, it may have an effect on Benchies. I know I've played around with mine being set at 2.5ghz core/2.4Ghz IMC. Was running benchies stable, but having issues with windows due to the IMC speed change without a reinstall. But, it is correct, max setting in Bios for the IMC on the B2 Phenom is 2.6Ghz, so that would make 2.8/3.0 Core the hard max on that revision.
