I ve notices in the last few weeks that all of the dialog boxes are white or
really white. For exaple, when I run the disk defragmentor in my window xp
pro, the window comes up but all is really white. The two line bars used to
be like grey or something now they are white. Now the window border is blue
like always this is solely in the dialong boxes that I look at. what would
cause all this white. No its not the monitor and the video card is good, its
a ATi x800GT. I was thinking maybe its the ATI control center. Anybody have
any ideas

The color of dialog boxes is controlled in the Display control panel, on the
Appearance tab:

- Click Start>Control Panel.
- If you see an icon named "Display", double-click it; if the Control Panel
says "Pick a Category", click "Appearance and Themes" and then click
"Display".
- In the "Display Properties" dialog box, click the Appearance tab.

To switch to the default Windows colors, including grey dialog boxes:

- In "Windows and buttons", select "Windows XP style".
- In "Color scheme", select "Default (blue)".
- Click "Apply".

The picture in Display Properties should now display a grey message box. You
can customize the colors even further by clicking the "Advanced" button and
changing settings there.

If this procedure doesn't work, we may be on the wrong track. It sounds like
you already played with the monitor settings, but I will also say that the
brightness and contrast settings can also cause dialog boxes to appear too
light.

I hope this helps.

Regards,
Rob

You can use whatever picture for your desktop background you like while
using the standard XP style. Go to the Display icon and click on the
Desktop tab. Various backgrounds are displayed in the larger box which
has a scrollbar. To put on a background not included in that list,
click the Browse button. Now browse for the picture of your wife, open
it, then click Apply and OK out.
