hi all, im currently awaiting a m2n32-sli deluxe/wireless mobo with ocz reaper memory (4gb kit, 2x2gb), now on the ocz site it says cas of 4-4-3-15 on 680i mobos only. im curious if anyone has these 2 components and WITHOUT any overclocking what are the actual stock speeds?
also im fairly curious if, since im getting a zalman 9700 can i put both of those sticks in the 2 black mem banks and still get dual-channel? the only reason i ask is because from what im seeing it doesnt look like the hsf and ram (with the heatpipes) will fit correctly. if they wont be dualchannel in the black slots, if i put the ocz ram in the black slots (2x2gb sticks) and get like a 2gb kit (2x1gb) just so i can put them in the yellow slots, will it hurt performance since im putting 2gb in the first two slots and 4gb in the last two?
sorry if none of that made sense, let me know if you cant understand it and ill try and explain further.
The motherboard limitation probably means that the ram has only been certified at that speed on the 680i mobo, not that it won't run as fast on your mobo. Who knows, it might even run faster on your particular mobo. But I can't give a specific answer to this question.
As for the ram, you can move it to the two black slots and it will work just as well. The ram slots are given different colors to indicate their pairings, i.e., putting the ram in both black slots or both yellow spots for dual channel effect. Putting a 2x1 kit in the yellow slots while putting the OCZ 2x2 kit in the black slots will give you 2T timing instead of 1T that is available by using two sticks in dual channel and will also make the different ram types run at the speed of the slowest ram, besides making any attempt to overclock the ram difficult or impossible.

you may have made my day.... so even though (which is why i was asking) the asus manual says to use dual-channel put the ram in the yellow slots, by putting them in the black slots i will still get dual-channel even though the two yellows (the primaries, persay) would be empty?
That's correct. I have to use the second and forth slots on my ASUS board as well because the Zalman 9500 interfers with the first slot and I retain full dual channel use.

ooc, what ram do you have? from what i have seen and read, most "normal" ram fits (granted just makes it, but it fits)... i just knew the reaperx's wouldnt work since they have to heatpipes coming off of them.
I've got some Corsair with tall heatsinks. There's actually a number of ram types which cause interferance. Add a fan on the top or watercooling and things get too close very suddenly.

I have an A8N32-SLI Deluxe in two of my computers, one using OCZ ram and the other using Corsair. That's why I couldn't specifically answer your question as to whether the ram would work well with your mobo. But I do have a similar situation with a Zalman heatsink and interference with ram sitcks. The problem of ram and heatsinks that you're having is an increasing one. At some point, I think that a new design of motherboards is going to be required as components are getting too big to fit properly. Some of the new motherboards have so many heat tubes, finned heatsinks, etc, that its hard just to get a cpu to fit in, much less a high performance heatsink/fan in place. The Intel boards seem worse than the AMD boards at the moment, but the AMD boards aren't far behind. I have an older Intel powered machine and will probably be getting a new board for that in a month or so.
As far as your rig, it should work out fine.

I have a very similar setup to yourself, in that I have 4gb of 6400 OCZ Reaper memory that won't fit in the yellow slots as it touches my processor heatsink. I also have 2gb of 6400 OCZ gold memory in the black slots because they don't have the extra heat sink. I have been playing with my memory today, and getting it all set to the fastest possible speed of the Gold memory, as I can't currently afford another set of reapers to match their speeds.
I also wondered if doing this would inhibit performance. Hopefully I can do some benchmarking soon and give you a good response to that one. I'm kind of guessing that the computer may run better with just the 4gb of Reapers in the black slots, since I can run them at 4-4-4-15 2.1v instead of my current 6gb of 5-5-5-15 1.8v. We shall see I guess. Good to see others sporting the m2n32sli. That little *** has treated me pretty well actually, could be about time to sell it though.
