SLI is in general better than Crossfire for sure. not to long ago I read somewhere that SLI is about 10-15% better then Crossfire when using multi-GPU over a single GPU.
Well, just put a X-Fire 3870 system together with a Q6600. Overclocked everything, and it runs Crysis (according to my cousin) with everything maxed, 1600X1200 or greater..... completely playable, no FPS problems.
I have also read numerous reviews stating that crossfire is scaling better on the 38XX cards than on the 8XXX cards.

A very comprehensive review.
Without AA and with the Exception of Lost Planet crossfire seems to scale significantly better.
Why oh why would you have two cards linked and not be running AA ??
Is this some weird trend Ive not heard of? Spend a fortune on a graphics card setup only to not enable high end features???
Im holding off buying a mobo till Ive seen next months releases to determine what I use for the next 12 months, Multi card scaling without AA enabled will NOT be a deciding factor...

Id say wait till the 3879 x2 reviews come through, some proper ones that is, places like expreview might get hold of them first, but they might not get ati's super-duper secret crossfire driver to go with it. If the card boils down to be a good scalling performer, it would bode very well for crossfire 3870s & 3850s. Point being multicard is a bit cräp all round at the mo but might come along a bit with new drivers from nvidia and ati for there new dual gpu cards coming at the end of the month/next month.
