I wasn't going to do it, but I couldn't resist being one of the firsts. Plus I'd just sold off the rest of my upgraded parts, so what the heck...

Went from an E6300 (oc'd to 2.33GHz), 2GB of DDR2-5300 memory, and a Sapphire X1800GTO to an E8400, 4GB of DDR2-6400 with an EVGA 8800GTS 512MB card. Seems to be a little faster...

can you tell us if it OCs well?

Reply to spuddyt

yes i'm thinking of doing the same. overclocking results would be real helpful.

Hopefully some screens ;), can't wait to see.

My current board isn't really set to overclock this puppy, I don't think. It's an older Asus P5W DH, so it's overclocked at about 25% just to get up to the 333MHz base speed! :) Right now, I'm also running with the stock cooler. At idle, CoreTemp is showing 45 C, with a room temp of about 20C.

On the plus side, I went from about 5000 with my overclocked E6300 and stock X1800GTO to 9800 with the E6300 and stock 8800GTS to 12000 with the stock E8400 and 8800GTS. Not too shabby! :)

TAT 2.05 is telling me I have an invalid processor... I'll see what else I can find.

Just ran 2 copies of Prime95 on the two cores for 15 minutes. At stock speed with the stock cooler, temps maxed at 43C. Pretty nice, especially considering the size of the little sucker!

My Asus P182 case should be here next week, and I'll be reassembling things with my Scythe Ninja cooler then. But using the smaller cooler sure was easier in my Sonata II case! Damn Intel and their funky HS attachments!

Ah, well, now to go try some games! I picked up NFS:Carbon last week, and got Crysis with the 8800GTS... Should keep me busy for a day or so.

Its a shame about the board. The biggest interest is its clockability, lets wait to see 4ghz on air.

That should be a joke on decent air cooling.

450x9 is pretty simple on most boards.

Personally I don't think it's worth upgrading if you had an older C2D. The difference between clock to clock tests aren't worth the upgrade imo.

I considered an E8400 and drop it in over my Q6600.

Then I thought about how low my scores on 3D Mark would drop and said hell no.

Don't worry... this rig is about all I will be doing til the summer.

Here's the plan:

Wait for the Next Gen Comparisons: RV770 vs G100 (I hate the 9800GX2 it's a joke).

Get a board (X48 or 790i) that will support Crossfire or SLI for the best Video Card.

Get DDR3 Memory for it.

Buy a new G0 Q6600 or a used QX9650 off Ebay. Watercool the entire rig.

Get a Nehalem and Motherboard for it in November/December (if it's out).

Just picked up a c2d 8400 and a evga 780i mobo from microcenter. Sick deal ($179 for 8400, $279 for the 780i and $79 for 4 gb (2x2gb) ocz ddr2 800 ram.

Anyone still interested in OC results--or is that old news?

Where the hell do you get all the money to do this........

I was lucky to get the rig I have for $900, but you talk about upgrades and new builds in almost every thread.

I'm single, 22, and have my own career that I've been successful with.

I spend my money on my car (it has about $12k worth of parts in it) and my computers.

Edit: I also do side jobs in my career field and build custom computers for people I know that have gotten to know me through friends.

My career is actually in HVAC and Electrical. I'm responsible for an entire building and I get paid well for it.

Any knowledge i have of heat and voltage is from reading and doing my own research because I'm interested in it and it does help me in my job. To be honest I just read a ton from anything I can get my hands on.

You have an E21x0 Series. Get a Tuniq and be happy and save money.

Otherwise TR120 + 3000 RPM Ultra Kaze + Sunbeam Rheobus.

Problem with the fan on the TRUE, the Noctua, is that it has very low static pressure. So it can't really force the air through the slits.

That's why I use the Ultra Kaze. 38mm and it pushes a good amount of air through the fins.

It beats it by one degree only, and it gets loud under load. I still prefer the TRUE. But yeah, it's a very impressive piece of work :)

After reading that link cnumartyr posted, I'm glad I went with the Q6600. I'd rather have a quad at 3.6 when compared to a dual at 4.0GHz. Those low multipliers push the board too hard IMO.
