Hello all, I'm new around these forums and I needed some advice for a new computer.

Currently this is what I have:
- MB: Asus P4C800 Deluxe
- CPU: P4 2.8GHz @ 3.05GHz
- 2x Kingston 1Gb DDR 400
- GPU: X800XT PE
- Power Supply: EuroTech 560W (supports PCI-E)

Some questions:

- I wanted to change to a E6850, but I've read some saying it's better to grab a Q6600, I intend to do some overclock but not sure which one will be a better bet.

- A pair of 1Gb DDR2 800 CAS4, will probably be my choice for the memory, any brand recommend over the others?

- I intend on getting a 8800GT 512 but not sure which MB I should buy, maybe in the future I could buy a 2nd GPU and put it on SLI, so both SLI and non-SLI motherboards accepted as possibilities.

- Will the power supply be enough for a single GPU for now?

Thank you in advance. I hope you can enlighten me in some way =D

People are enjoying the ati HD 3850 and the Newegg price is hard to beat. A 775 intel package. Abit IP35pro, or cheaper the IP35v from www.newegg.com lots of reviews cannot be wrong.

I like transcend for memory or kingston hyperx.

Power supply should be decided when you add all the components up in your system, so I cannot answer you on that one until you decide what processor you want, video card, etc.

The Q6600 is a far better option than the E6850, remember that you can overclock the Q6600 to match the E6850 speed, but you can't add two extra cores to the E6850 to match the Q6600.

I would recommend you get Crucial Ballistix or Corsair XMS2 ram, there are also other good memories out there, but these are among the best and are not that expensive.

As far the as the GPU goes, I'd say get either an EVGA or XFX branded card if possible. Also since 780i boards are too expensive, I believe the best possible upgradeable SLI board is a 680i

I wouldn't use such a nice system with that kind PSU, I consider those parts way too valuable for them to be running on low quality units putting them at risk, try this unit:

Antec NeoPower 650 Blue ATX12V / EPS12V 650W Power Supply 100 - 240 V UL, CUL, CE, CB, FCC Class B, TUV, CCC, C-tick - Retail

And finally I would at least get a cheap (And effective) CPU cooler like this one to keep the CPU cool if you plan on OC'ing.

Wow, thanks for the quick replies =D

Sorry for not referring but I'm from Europe and it's hard for me to get some of that stuff '^^

A HD3850 is way lower than a 8800GT, for that I would get a HD3870 at least, but on that point I've done my choice already =) thanks either way for the tip ^^

As for RAM, Crucial doesn't appear anywhere in my country (Portugal) and Transcend is hard to find and usually pricey around here =/ those Corsair XMS2 (though, these ones are way overpriced compared to the ones in newegg even without the rebate) or the Kingston HyperX are a good option, also a friend of mine advised me the Geil Ultra DDR2 2x1GB PC6400 CAS4, but I don't really know this brand very well but are more comfortable in price also.

As for the MB, I'm looking at Gigabyte and Asus, but more to the side of Asus as the customer support of Asus is better than Gigabyte around here following the critics at least, I like that GA-P35-DS3L, any Asus model compared to that one. Also for now I'll stick to single GPU, next time I'll bet on a dual gpu system.

The PSU will probably change, but not as soon as I change computer, I like Antec, my case is a Antec Performance PlusView1000AMG and by the time bought it I got a 400W PSU from them too, which burned =X (though, at the time I had weaker components) but currently it's hard to find a store with those PSU around here lol.

Relatively to the GPU, I have in mind, XFX, eVGA or Asus for the 8800GT but the search for this GPU is so high that almost every store (online or not) can't take so many requests. So I'll have to standby for a little for one =/

Thank you for advising a cpu cooler I already had that in mind but didn't give much thought to it for now, but the one you referred seems a fine choice =)

I'm still checking for some more info if oc'ing the E6850 wouldn't give more comparing to a Q6600 with the same stock speed as the dual core.

Sorry for the long post, and thanks again for the answers ^^

Ok, in the end I got this:

MB: Asus Maximus Formula SE (when able, maybe I'll switch to WC if it's worth)
CPU: E6850
GPU: Asus EN8800GT 512Mb
RAM: G.Skill DDR2800 2Gb Kit CL 4-4-3-5 (F2-6400CL4D-2GBHK)
CPU Cooler: Zalman 8700NT

For now I can't afford the PSU, meanwhile I won't be oc'ing anything, for now stock is enough to handle most things, and as soon as I can I'll get either the Antec NeoPower650 or the Antec NeoPower550.
