Hi!
I wasn't quite sure where to put this question, so forgive me if it's in the wrong place! :pfff:
My front panel fan controller has stopped working.
Is it ok to connect the 4pin PWM fan cables to the 3 pin connectors on the mobo?
I did connect them all thru' the CPU 4pin connector, but then the CPU fan was adopting the speed of the exhaust fan and instead of going 2500 rpms it was at 1500! :fou:
thanks,
debs :)

yes, it's ok. all 4 pin fan connectors i've seen are keyed so you can do just that and get the right contacts lined up. u should check to make sure u have it positioned correctly if the connector is not keyed.

Great thanks!
I did read somewhere that you shouldn't do that, but it was a long time ago and maybe it was for older mobos?

ya, i've seen instructions that come with fans recommend not connecting the fan to the mobo but to a molex psu connector instead. not just a 4 pin pwm, but 3 pin also. some older mobos could not supply the current needed for high rpm fans, but i don't think it's an issue any more. i've been connecting fans to the mobo for years without issue.
