The 9800gx2 offers ~30% gain over the 8800 ultra. But from what I understand about the older 7950gx2 cards, sli needed to be enabled. Now I have read that people have problems getting the older 7950gx2 cards to work on the P35 boards because they are crossfire motherboards and not sli. Any feeling on how the x38 boards will fair with the 9800gx2 cards? I know you can't run 2 cards (quad setup), but if I trade in my 8800gtx for a 9800gx2, I want the better performance.

SLI is enabled on the card. I ran my 7950GX2 on my A8R32 no problem at all so I'm sure the 9800GX2 will run on the X38 boards. You just cant run two of them. Now whether there will be any driver issues who knows but the X38 chipset will run it.

i had this exact question not too long ago and i'm not sure what the solid answer is. from what i have been told the older 7950X2's were considered SLI but in just one card for the fact that it ran two GPU's at once. It was said SLI needed to be enabled for them to work. Who knows what will happen but i am eager to use my EVGA step up to get this 9850GX2 and it would suck if i gave up a 8800GTX super clocked for a card my X38 mobo can't run.
