If I were him, I would wait for E8500 Wolfdale which can be overclocked to over 4Ghz on air. ON AIR. Don't do that with Conroe/Allendale/Kentsfield. Everything else is good on the 2nd list.

Faulty parts? Rarely. I think you mean lackluster computer.

My build is viewable under my name to the left, its 3 weeks old and similar to your second one. I went with a Q6600, p35 MB and 2 x 2 G Ram. The case and keyboard look very cool if you like blue, check them out. Otherwise your builds look good to me. Go quad and get a good PSU.

Thanks for the replies!
Antec III comes with a 500W PSU should be good enough?
yeah I think its a good idea to go with 2x 2 G Ram
will the 2x 120 fans be enough? also have the Typhoon heat sink fan.

Yes, the 500W Earthwatts will do for either of those builds.

I'm not familiar with the Thermaltake Wing. Does it come with a PSU? If
not, does that first build also include an Earthwatts 500W?

The first build (E6850) will be better than the other (Q6600, I assume) in most games. The quad will win in other kinds of applications, such as video encoding, programming, server stuff. Which build is best for you really depends on your needs. The quad will be perfectly good for games, you'd just get a few more fps with the E6850.

Thermaltake wing Rs 101 does come with a 430W Power Supply,
Does any one know when the Penryn Quads or nahelem
are available in Australia?
and if i get Gigabyte Ga-x38-dq6 it will Support Intel Core 2 multi-core and upcoming 45nm processors so it's easly possible to update processor in a few years or so.
what do you think?

Wait for the E8500, as others have said. If you go with Conroe, which I don't suggest, gets an E6750, not E6850.

how long would I have to wait for E8500

Intel is delaying some new cpus. The release of E8x00 should be in Jan. End of Jan would be latest, I think. Don't quote me on that.

To convince you:

Quote :

We managed to get this processor to run stably at 4.37GHz. No doubt: Wolfdale CPUs will become another overclockers’ favorite, because Conroe processors could hardly hit these speeds at extremely high voltages and with special cooing systems involved. By the way, our processor running at 4.37GHz retained quite acceptable thermal mode of only 70°C under workload.

BTW, they DIDN'T overclock the cpu hard enough. The o/c could be higher.
