Hi all,

I'm new to the board here. I have a question regarding my current setup. For my media center PC, I have an old Dell Optiplex P4 1.7 GHz with 768MB ram and horrible on-board video (16 MB ATI Rage 128). Is it worth it to try to upgrade my video card, or would i be better off trying to start with a new pc from scratch? I use the PC mainly for web-browsing, mp3 playback, and some light gaming, but I have noticed that this setup is very limited with most games. If it is worth upgrading the video card, does anyone have any recommendations? Thanks

Depends on your goals.

No matter what video card you buy for it, a 1.7 GHz P4 isn't going to handle any newer game titles well.

If you want to play some older titles, like Doom 3 or Unreal Tournament 2004, a cheap (~$100) videocard upgrade might give you good 1024x768 performance...

...assuming you have an AGP port, that is.
