Looking to purchase a new mid - high system - almost entirely gaming focused, likely made up of an Intel Q9550, Nvid 9800GX2 or GTS 512mb SLI, probably DDR3 but not necessarily. (Edit) Looking to spend up to 3k$.

What would be the best option to go for? Is the 780 SLI good / worth it? What other motherboards would you recommend for a kick ass system?

1st off is what's your budget lookin like!

2nd is that the 9800gx2 is a waste of time and money seeing how it's only a measly 30% faster than the ultra! so pending on monies go with the gts (g92) version or ATI's new king-of-all cards the 3870x2 if ya must have the best!
