Power supply/mobo compatibility?

I just built my first ever system (sort of). It's not posting, and I suspect the PSU may be my problem. My MB (abit IP35v http://www.uabit.com/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=32&Itemid=48&page=1&model=404) takes a 4-pin ATX_12V, but my power supply (Silverstone ST50F http://www.silverstonetek.com/products/p_contents.php?p...) has an 8-pin ATX_12V. Someone on Newegg who purchased the same PSU said he got his to work by just plugging in 4 of the 8 pins. I tried this, though I'm not sure which 4 to use. Also, there are only 4 that I can use since a transistor gets in the way if I try to use the other 4.

I haven't ruled out anything else as the reason I'm not posting. Can I work with what I have? Can I get some kind of adapter? Or do I just need to buy another PSU?

Using 4/8 pins should work. Either 4 will provide the 12V needed by your CPU.
Do the fans come on? Beeps, LEDs, anything?

I actually bought a Silverstone PSU because someone on this forum recommended the brand (among others), though not this specific model.

There is definitely no 4-pin. I thought I must be out of my mind, so I checked every single cable like 5 times to make sure. Based on everything I've been told today, I think the way I have it is fine, so the problem must be somewhere else.

All of my fans and LEDs come on, including the LED on the motherboard. No beeps, though. Shouldn't the fans and LEDs work regardless, though, since the 12V is just for the CPU?

Here's the part where people get mad: the mobo has no on-board video, and I haven't installed the video card because I haven't gotten it yet. So maybe that's why it won't POST. Also, I don't remember plugging in a case speaker (because I didn't see one), so that might explain why no beep, right?
