This is my first PC build and its aimed to be a decent gaming machine. How will this configuration work?

GIGABYTE GA-M57SLI-S4 AM2 NVIDIA nForce 570 SLI MCP ATX AMD
AMD Athlon 64 X2 6400+ Windsor 3.2GHz 2 x 1MB L2 Cache Socket AM2 125W Dual-Core Processor
XFX PVT84JYAJG GeForce 8600GT 512MB 128-bit GDDR2 PCI Express x16 SLI
SAMSUNG Black 20X DVD+R 8X DVD+RW
ZEROtherm Nirvana NV120 120mm 2-ball UFO Bearing
Rosewill RP600V2-S-SL 600W SLI Ready-ATX12V

Just wondering if this is a good start and would this power supply be ok. Working within my budget so top of the line is a little out of reach.....

Thanks!

What is your budget?
That Rosewill PSU is on Tier-5 ("Do not buy") of the list at http://www.tomswiki.com/page/Tiered+PSU+Listings?t=anon. Choose one from Tier-3 or better. FSP makes some inexpensive models that should suffice.
What games do you want to play? An 8600GT would be enough for WoW, but not good for Crysis. For not too much more, get a HD3850 if you can.

Well I do play WOW but other than that a few RTS`s like BFME 2, as far as FPS I really don`t play a lot of them with the exception of Call of Duty 2....will COD 4 work with this?....as far as a budget I wanted to stay around 700 to 800.00 for my first build.

If you want to spend a little more, you can get a faster processor.

Might want to consider an Intel system. I recommend a P35-DS3L + a E21xx OCed to 3Ghz+ will beat the 6400 most of the time even if the 6400 is OCed. 8600 is not a good price/performance card. Consider a 38xx card.I agree with jtt283 on the PSU.

Also take a look at the Antec Sonata III case at New Egg.

It currently has a $40 Rebate.

You get a nice case and very nice Antec EarchWatts 500PSU that normally goes for $80 by itself.
