Help..how to setup and partition raid 0...
i have ASUS P5Q Deluxe motherboard and two Seagate Barracuda 250GB SATAII 7200.10 drives and iam using Windows Vista Ultimate x64 sp1...
my question is how do i setup a raid0 array without installing the os first...?
is there any way to first setup a raid0 array and then install a fresh copy of windows vista ultimate x64 on it...?
(the drive expert utility provided with motherboard says that you have to first enable the drive expert option in bios then you've to install the drive expert utility in your os then connect the other drive in the motherboard's provided raid port and enable super speed or whatever it is called in drive expert utility and its done...the raid0 thing is on...its that simple...
but is it necessary to setup an raid0 array after installing the os...????
also which ever method i choose to setup a raid0 array...
how do i partition it...?
i am thinking of giving 40 gb for os cause its minimum requirement for vista and also the main purpose was gaming so i am going for two more partitions for games and movies/other stuffs...
will raid0 performance be affected if i make too many partitions...(min 2or3)?
and if it does, how should i partition my drive...?
i am totally new to this raid0 thing guys...please help...
When the computer boots up (in the BIOS screen) there will be a message like
'Press Ctrl-I" to enter Raid setup. then your select the drives that you want to be in the array and what type of RAID you will use.
Then you boot up the computer and install your OS. During the OS install you decide if you want to partition the drive or just have one large drive (volume).
I prefer to use a separate hd just for the OS. If you have the room in your case an 80GB drive for the OS is cheap. This way you can backup (Ghost) your OS to the RAID and if you muck up the OS it's easy to reload the original setup and start fresh without messing up your RAID (storage data).
