How to prevent ms dos prompt from closing automatically?

I am executing it from windows XP . in 2 to 3 seconds after opening, it get closed automatically?

It sounds as though you could be trying to run a command from the Open box in Run. Instead, open Run and type cmd into the open box then hit Enter. That brings up the Command Prompt black screen which allows you to enter your required command.
