Hdmi cable not working with laptop to tv

Hello,
My hdmi cable is not working with my panasonic tv and my advent laptop. The first time I put it on it worked fine but not since. The cable definately works because I have tried it at a friends. What's gone wrong???
I've tried fn and then f4 but the laptop screen goes off then comes back on but nothing on the tv?? Please help!!!!

And, if it worked once, certainly, you are right Re: the cable.
Check device manager; something may be amiss. (error code?)

Same here. The first time I connected the cable to my laptop, it worked fine. Then when I disconnected and reconnected it again, it stopped working. We even bought a new cable, and it still doesn't work. It works fine on another HP laptop, but it doesn't on mine (Windows 7) no matter how many times I select the option to extend the screen monitor. I've tried Windows Mobility Center -> Connect display, but it keeps saying 'No display connected'. Very frustrating.
