My MB recently went through some bios hell and needed to be replaced,

its a Gigabyte GA-P35-DS3L

memory is the corsair TWIN2XP2048-6400C4 with timings 4-4-4-12 and it also stated 2.1V on the ram sticks

CPU-Z is reporting the timings right now are 5-5-5-18 which i want to change

Hoping to avoid another bios melt down. whats the safest software i can use to adjust these memory timings ?

Do i also have to adjust the ram voltage ? i rather not cause thats what cause my bios to go caput i think the last time

The best way to do it is in the bios, and you will probably need to manually change your voltage to its rated settings as well.

making changes to the settings controlled by the bios probably didnt fry the bios, something else did. like a failed update maybe?? or just a fluke that the bios crapped on its own at that time. (rare, but can happen)

ok so the sticks of ram say 4-4-4-12 on them and 2.1 V

Should i just go to bios and put that in ?

i think for voltage it shows DDR2Overvoltage which allows you to increase the voltage by0.1 increments...

Yea just put those in, and if it doesnt show the exact number for the voltage, but says something such as +.1v, +.2v, etc...You will want to put +.3v to get the 2.1v as the default DDR2 voltage is set @ 1.8v.

The only way I know of to do it is via the bios. You need to enter ctl f1 to get the options in the motherboard intelligent tweaker section. Add + .3 to get from the default 1.8v to 2.1v.

That said, you won't see any difference in real performance because the C2D processors are just not very sensitive to ram speeds. I would not bother.

That will probably be fine. If it is unstable...just bump it up again...just dont go over 2.2v and you will be safe.

why is speedfan showing vcore2 (its the ddr2 voltage right ?) as 1.9V

OK i went into bios, the DDR18V was showing 1.903 V by the way
anyways changed the timings to 4-4-4-12 and DDR2 overvoltage by +0.2 V
CPU-Z is showing the right timings, but speedfan is reporting Vcore2 as 2.0 V

so why was bios showing 1.903, i did +0.2 and speedfan now shows 2.0

should i go back to bios and check that setting and up it by another 0.1 ?

If you don't know that don't do it. Read up on it first.

Trust the bios reading the best. If anything your voltage is currently running 2.1v, which is perfectly fine. Your setting should be fine on those settings whether it be 2.0v or 2.1v as long as your system is stable. I wouldnt worry about it to much man everything looks good to me.
