Hi

Just start overclocking for the first time with a e8400 and MSI P5Q Pro mobo. I've seen people set FSB to 400 straight away, leaving everything else on Auto (voltages etc) and system runs stable, I can't set mine past 350 without running into problems, what am I doing wrong?

RAM is OCZ PC-6400 Platinum. Running on stock cooler, could this be the problem? Ideal temp at stock is 47C but not sure if this is correct as value jumps to 60C almost instantly under load.

Any help would be great; heard that these CPUs were great for overclocking, would be nice to get to 3.6Ghz even!

Thanks

Will

Have you set the ram timings/voltages manually? OCZ memory can be funny on some mobo's and need to be set in Bios manually, Your temps dont look good for overclocking, Before you go further i would invest in an aftermarket cooler or if you have one already you may need to re-seat the Heatsink before you continue.

cheers

Ok, maybe I will leave it for now until I can get another cooler. I have set the timings manually already; auto was 5-5-5-15 but spec says 4-4-4-15, changed it to that and works fine at 800Mhz.

Cheers

Update to latest BIOS
Install good aftermarket cooler
Reset CMOS
Give it a try with just changing you FSB to 400 and setting RAM timing and everything else on AUTO as a start
If you have LoadLine Calibration in Bios set it to Enabled
