Hello,

Just wanna ask, does the Zalman VF-700 cu fit my HD3850 card? Anyone tried it before? I'm currently OC my card and the temperature during load is between 93C-100C. I tried to set the fan speed to 70% using rivatuner but it din't helped much.

My clock now is (750/2048) ideal temp is 46C-52C

Sugesstion and comments are greatly appreciated. Thanks.

While i'm also interested whether it works or not, i would like to know why you didn't buy the 3870 series if you intended to put an aftermarket cooler on it? The 3850 with an aftermarket cooler should be about the same price as the 3870, yet it won't reach the same clock speeds.

Not everyone has the $$$$ to do everything at once. Maybe he could only afford the 3850 at the time and now has some extra to OC it and get an after market cooler.

I can just imagine the impact on my TOY purchases when I have kids etc....

God help me !!!

Well actually i ady owned a 8800GTS (G92), ths card (hd3850) was initially used in my HDPC and not for gaming and OC.... Since i gave my GTS to my brother, i have to use ths card, the temperature after i OC really concerned me.

U have ur point, ($ hd3850 + $ aftermarket cooler = $ hd3870)
That's also why i choose VF-700 instead of VF-900 or VF-1000

I just hope my HD3850 + aftermarket cooler = Longer life (3 years +), probably by next year i bought myself another HD3850 and Xfire it.

It seems like a good idea to put some extra cooling on those GPUs. My opinion is, no matter what others tell me, that 90° C is too hot.

I have to admit that my calculation or as you put it ($ hd3850 + $ aftermarket cooler = $ hd3870), is flawed. With a little luck you will be able to reu-use the cooler for your next GPU. Actually that's what i would try to do.

If you look at this 3850:

and this 3870:

The fans look like Zalman 700's to me.
