CPU is over clocked to 3.6 ghz @ 400mhz FSB. My ram is running at 800mhz. The problem I have is that whenever I change a setting in ram it makes my games slow to a crawl. Default setting is 5-5-5-15-43. I can change it to 4-4-4-12-30 and boot to windows but then my games slow down. Another not as important question is what are the last digits for as in the 30 in 4-4-4-12-30. My BIOS says its the refresh cycle time or TRFC.



My specs

CPU:E8400
Ram:2x 1gb CORSAIR xms2 8500
Ram:2x 1gb BL2cp1286AL804
MOBO: Abit AW9D-MAX

Both ram module are rated to go up to 1066 but are running at 800mhz

First problem I'd see, is it appears you might be using two different brands/models of memory sticks. If they aren't both rated at the same speeds & timings, you could create some conflicts in trying to OC either of them (as they both OC together).

I'm no expert on RAM by any means. But I'd suspect that could be a problem.

Searching Google for BL2cp1286AL804 I came up with nothing. So I'm not sure if that's a model # for your RAM, or a typo.

try running just the corsair without the other two sticks, set the 4-4-4-12 timings and see if its stable / games run better. in not, also tell us the ram voltage. if you leave it to auto the system may be unstable. my ram didnt run the rated timings out of the box, i manually changed it but had to up the voltage from 1.8 to 1.9v to get it stable.

Download and run CPUZ. Click on the SPD tab and at the top there is a drop down menu to go through the different memory modules. write down all the timings and voltages for the different DIMM's and go from there. If they are different but there are settings that the have in common set them at those settings in the BIOS.

They're both at 2.2 set in BIOS
For the crucial ram its 4-4-4-12-24 @2.2v @400mhz
For the corsair ram its 5-5-5-18-22 @1.8v @ 400mhz

I think the reason you cant find it on Google is cause its rebranded by crucial

They both have EPP whatever that is

If you run CPUZ like I said you will find several different settings both for JEDEC and EPP (Enhanced Performance Profiles). JEDEC is the governing body that certifies memory speeds and their default voltage for DDR2 is 1.8v. Judging by what you wrote the Corsair is listed at it's JEDEC settings and the Crucial is at it's EPP settings. As I said you need to run CPUZ and find what settings they have in common.

The only one they have in common is JEDEC @400mhz 5-5-5-18-23
