Hello, thanks for all the previous advice.

I have an Asus F3J latop, stock with 1gb ram. I will be purchasing another gig soon, my question is, will it slow it down/hurt it/etc. to put in say some corsair or crucual stick combined with stock ram, or should i just get 2 new sticks?

I would be sure to match the speed of the new stick with the old....which brings me to how would i check the speed of the exsiting ram in my laptop?

If you can swing it, get 2 matching sticks. Otherwise, get one stick that has the same timing, voltage, etc as what's in there. That's likely cheap RAM so if you're going to add, I wouldn't be looking at expensive RAM
