which ram to get...for an OC setup.

im being given a Pentium D 920.

I already bought a gigabyte DS3P

i assumed the ram coming with the CPU was atleast DDr2/800 but its ddr2-533 or whatever.

so my question is now. i read somewhere few weeks ago people say the ddr2 800 ram is better for Ocing than the 1033? anyhow which ram should i go with?

Your CPU has a 800Mhz FSB which means to run 1:1 you only need DDR2 400 so your 533 would be fine because you would have to get it to over 1066FSB before you would have to worry about overclocking the RAM.

oh cool. i guess the ds3p can use ddr2-533 is there any real difference in the 533 and 800 or to the 1033? just overall average performance wise?

Very little difference, you won't notice it.

from what i can tell it only shows the board using down to ddr2 667. know if this is the absolute lowest ram it can use?

It should be fine but if it isn't then your not loosing anything just buy some faster RAM then. There's no sense in buying it if you don't need it. The thing you didn't mention though is how much RAM you will have. If your running XP I would suggest no less than 1gb but 2gb would be better and for Vista no less than 2gb.

yea the cpu is coming with 2gig of the 533. i run vista and i plan to minimum have 3gig at the end of the day. ill probly just get some 667 or 800 if needed.
