I’ve recently conceived of creating a media center pc. However, since I’ve never done this before I need a bit of advice (I’ve built a couple gaming PCs, so I’m not a complete noob). Here are the requirements:

It must act as a Tivo. I’m using DirectTv currently, and since this is the only way to get the NFL ticket this is non-negotiable. I’m not getting HDTV yet, but in the lifetime of this PC I will.

I intend to use both HD DVDs and Blu Ray DVDs.

It must connect to my stereo (primarily for suround sound).

What type of video card (currently looking atRadeon HD 3870), TV tuner, and cable card are necessay or recommended? (I will need a way to get HDTV)

What type of remote control should I get?

What type of OS is needed. I’m looking at 64 bit Vista Ultimate. Should I get 32 bit, or something else?

I’m planning to put a 1Tb HDD in.

Anything else I should be considering?

Help from others who have built their own media Center PC is requested. Thanks!

TB HD's are expensive, just go 4x500GB. I'd say don't worry too much about the vid card (I use a Geforce FX 5700 and it works great), but don't skimp on the TV Tuner & processor if you want to record shows. XP Media Center Ed or Vista are both good options. Don't leave the image static on the screen unless you have an LCD tv.
