it may just be dead, when it dies, it says it is protected. Oher than that you need to specify what is happening, what kind of stick it is.

Since Windows XP SP2, you can disable writing to USB devices altogether using a simple registry hack. Here it is:


[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\StorageDevicePolicies]
“WriteProtect”=dword:00000001

or download this unzip and open the reg file and restart computer.

I hope then you will able to do whatever you want.
