Hello!

I decided to back up my files on DVD after I noticed that my computer had a DVD writer (TSSTcorp CD/DVDW SH-S162L), but have discovered that it is less simple than I hoped. I went to buy some DVDs to write, but I was confused by the myriad different types and 'speeds'... I have spent some time trying to find out what 'speed' my DVD writer is, but none of the hardware menus seem to hold this information. Can you help me find out? Also, will I be able to use Rewritable DVDs, or just one-use ones?

Also, is there anything else I should know about DVD writing, since I haven't done it before?

Thanks :)

What is it you want a backup for? Do you want a daily backup for work or is it something like family pictures?
DVD-R at X16 should be cheap and fast. But you can't rewrite them, so if you want daily backups it will get expensive and bothersome in the long run.

It's more for a permanent backup, so DVD-R will serve the purpose. Thankyou for your help, I'll get some x16 ones today!
