How to enable "auto arrange pics in folders with XP

Hello,
My photos in XP previously were auto arranged which was preferable to me. I recall in the past viewing the pics by date created etc and was able to place them back in auto arrange. Now all are arranged by date and the "auto arrange"option is no longer highlighted or available from the "view" drop down menu. How do I get the pictures auto arranged again.

right click
left click on: arrange icons by...
left click on your choice (date?)
