So if you dont have to pay the electric bill (130W processor Yikes!!!) and you have $1000 to drop on a CPU is the QX9650 really worth it? I know the new CPUs that just came out your getting 3.2ghz easily. But ive read a reports of these getting 4.6 on air (not that I would ever push it even close to that) What are your thoughts and opinions?

Im looking into building a new system in April, mostly gaming, surfing the net, multimedia center.

Thanks

The Extreme parts have always had a horrible price/performance ratio, you should wait for the mainstream parts and OC to Extreme speeds (or beyond), with the saved money you could buy a better cooler and a new vga or more ram.

If we don't buy the riduculusly overpriced extreme chips (from both comanies) maybe they will notice it's stupid to sell them at those prices.

I agree. I don't even consider the "extreme" processors or even the ones that are $1000.

Im keeping an eye on the cheaper Penryn Quads, and the Penryn Wolfdales (Dual Core Penryns). I'm looking to upgrade probably sometime in June.

buy the q6600 or the E8400 or E8500

if you really need the latest now ok qx9650 is it

but if you wait for new socket out in late 08 you be better served with the triple memory bandwidth boost and octo core capable systems
