Hi, i'm new here, and have done a system build , and some problems came up. I need help so thats why i'm starting this thread. My problem is that put my system together it turned on correctly (woot) but I had got to the point to were i was installing vista and I couldn't format my sata hard drive the message was somthing like "can not format make sure it's connected properly but it was detected in bios, and showed how many gbs it held ect so I thought i would try a pata on the same ribbon as my dvd drive, I had forgoten to set the jumpers but I don't think it would have made this happen but now when i go to the bios my dvd drive is'nt showing up anymore. Another problem was when i first turn the system on the processer fan just giggles for a couple of seconds then starts to spin. I talked to people at work , and at first they said that my 500gb sata hard drive was bad then the next day I told them my dvd drive vanashes, and about the fan giggle (which was suposed to be normal) but they are tellling me that my bord is bad now I just wanted to get someother opinnions first be for I do returns/exchanges. Anyone have anyother thought or sugesstions?

hard ware
gigabyte N650slids4 mobo
2gb corisar xms ram
q6600 stock hs
corisar 520 psu
western digital 500gb hd
dvd drive i snatched out of an old gateway

Thanks for any help

1. Is that it?

http://www.gigabyte.com.tw/Product [...] uctID=2514

2. Is the pc overclocked? If so, clear cmos & install Vista.

3. Is the jumper set correctly on the dvd drive?

4. Is the PATA cable hooked up correctly to the dvd drive? (the middle connector should not be used in this case)

5. Is the boot order set up correctly bios?

6. Are the new PATA/SATA cable being used in the pc?

7. If you have another cd/dvd drive, try it.

yea, thats my mobo
the pc isn't over clocked
the dvd drive worked fine till I hooked up the pata drive to it
to number 4 yeaaaa I did it on the middle connector
boot order is cd hd flopy wich i don't have
for 6 I used the western digital cable that came with it
i guess i could give 7 a try
also i don't know if its suposed to do this but, if I don't press anything when the selection screen comes up bios, boot order, boot, and qflash
and I don't press anything it goes to the next screen (wich i know is suposed to happen) it says checking admi pool or somthing like that and just never does anything after that.
thanks for helpin me out !!

You must set the jumpers on both the dvd & hdd drives. Otherwise, it may be screwing with your pc. In your case, dvd is master & the hdd is slave.

Now I'm confused. You have 2 PATA drives? Edit & list it in your 1st post. Also, list the SATA/PATA type.

What's supposed to do this? POST or BIOS? POST is the 1st screen from mobo when it's powered on. BIOS is where you set things up.

No i have just one pata drive, and one sata 2 drive
it's in the post I just wanted to know if anything was suposed to happen after it says collecting asmi pools , somthing like that.

i'm def returning my board I was at work to day and i saw a cart full of boards and 4 of them were the same board that I have so i'm guessing we got a bad batch of them, but if the next one is messed up i'm never buying gigabyte again.. but we will see.
