Hard Drive SCSI installation

That motherboard has 1 PATA port, 7 SATA ports and 1 e.SATA port. Only some server motherboards include SAS ports.

You can buy a SATA/SAS controller or buy a X58 chipset based motherboard that includes a SAS controller, e.g., Asus P6T Deluxe (requires a Core i7 CPU).

You can buy an inexpensive controller like the PROMISE FastTrak TX2650 PCI Express SATA / SAS Controller Card: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16816102139, but read the reviews and make sure that your motherboard is supported.

You can buy a somewhat better controller like the HighPoint RocketRAID2640X4 PCI-Express x4 SATA / SAS Controller Card: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16816115050. Again read the reviews, including Tom's review.

And at over $200, you can get a better controller, e.g, the Adaptec 2260100-R PCI Express SATA / SAS Controller http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16816103092

Also make sure that drivers are available for your OS.

You need a SAS controller like stated above. Some of the x58 boards have built in SAS controllers. You may be better off returning and getting 2xVelociraptor drives?? Good SAS controllers are expensive.

Jeez, that is a nice drive. 300 GB, $300, fast.

i used to have SCSI systems, starting with a Pentium Pro with onboard Ultra-Wide SCSI. my last SCSI system was a Tyan Dual Xeon motherboard (got that in about 2002).

i was quite surprised when i got a Shuttle small form factor system in 2004. it had 2 160 GB Parallel ATA drives. it was faster than the SCSI interface that i liked so much !

and SATA drives are faster still. that did not make sense to me initially, because the SCSI drive has more data lines.
