So I just got my western digital caviar black 1tb drive, and after a day or so of use and installing the OS, I found the access time to be much lower than expected. I have another drive, a Samsung Spinpoint F1 750gb, and that is consistently getting random access times of 13.8-13.9 according to hd tune, which is almost identical to the 14.0 reported from the Tom's Hardware charts.
However, the WD drive is getting times of 14-14.8, which seem abnormally high when compared to the 12.0 from Tom's Hardware and 12.x from other sites. My question is, is it possible that I have a bad drive, and if so, what's the best way to test for it? I've run it through chkdsk and formatted it once before installing the OS, and nothing abnormal occurred. Thanks!
