lol tough decision....

i would just save for a new machine unless this one doesnt perform in the games you play...or whatever you need it for. But its not like that machine is garbage, its decent...but old.

It seems that this poll has slightly more people intrigued in it then the USA presidential election.

What is the motive for the upgrade, i.e. is there a particular game or app that is performing poorly?

hehe, want to play bioshock again on higher settings, and hate the low fps in in 2142 at titan mode (15-20 in titan). camp gibraltar it is 30- 50 fps everything high. but more like 40 fps... and i want to milk it, because i want it to last an other year... maybe i'll oc the system back, but don't dare it because it's getting old (hardware about 3 years old)

playing a game with low settings isn't a job for me, i tried crysis, man that sucked 10 -50 fps, (50 against a rock )

what will you do? be glad with the card i have, and keep the 170-190 euro's or buy it and game an other year with satisfaction.

Buy the 8800GT and then move it over to your new system that you are going to build in a year.

ok, looking at ur specs, i say. u need to get new cpu+gpu. rest seems alright. if ur mobo doesnt support new cpu (c2d, c2q) then u need new mobo as well. u didnt say ur ram is it ddr2 or ddr tho it looks ddr2.

DDR2 (old topic)

thanks all for the replies.

i'm waiting until september! oh, and that p5LD2 isn't rev 2.0 so no c2d suport.
June 17, 2008 11:08:34 AM

Well i think the system is bit out dated and upgrading it wont do to much good specially with that powersupply. I saw wait and build new system.
June 17, 2008 1:19:51 PM

If you are waiting untill september... I am assuming you will be moving to Nehalem from Intel.
June 17, 2008 2:20:19 PM

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nehalem_(microarchitecture)

2to 8 cores. so, maybe waiting will give me joy! that's why i want to wait for the next generation of intel. and i guess i'll go for ATI this time!

o shata, you said something about my psu. why do you think it would make a problem? it has some good things too. http://www.xsreviews.co.uk/reviews/power-supply-units/x...
but i don't know what a nehalem and the new ati are going to demand?

guesses?

thanks you 2

you can sit around all day and play games with prices, but the fact is, everyday after you buy the parts, REGARDLESS of when you bought them, will make you loose money. so it doesnt really matter if you upgrade this summer, next summer, tomorrow or next week, you will always get screwed.

ps when nehalem comes out, you won't be able to afford it, that and a new mobo.

IMO, but a midrange system now, take the parts from the pc you have, upgrade the ram to 4 gigs, put a 8800 in it and game away.
June 17, 2008 2:28:23 PM

eheh, that 8800GT would run like a 8600 on my low resolutionscreen. (1280x1024) my cpu is to slow. but indeed if i get a new mobo, get 4 gigs of ram and buy a cheep c2d or a E2xxx i'll be set too. but that isn't what i want. i want someting to last longer. newer, payable hardware. i was looking for the Q9300 or Q9450. i know i can't use my ddr2 533 on newer mobo, i know my sata drives are to slow (sata 1) i have to spend much money, but i don't want to spend 300 euro on something i can use 1.5 years than giving 550 for sometihng i can use +3 years (i hope, i don't know how future technologie and games will be)

the reason why i say this, is because we have a c2d 4300 1.8ghz, and i tested it with my 8600GT. with only 2 gb ram and vista it didn't performe much better than my old p4. i want higher ghz, and no oc. i'm to affraid for oc, i overclocked my p4 to 3.3, but i don't like it, i'm a wuss.

Id say wait till after summer, by then if you still wanted the 8800gt you would get one at waht the 8600s are selling for now!

I got mine at the King of Prussia Mall (largest mall on the east coast... just northwest of Philadelphia, city of motherly love). I think it was Urban Outfitters. I won't open mine just because it is too awesome!
